Heads up the Web Analytics community from the UK, Belgium and France!

The next “Rendez-vous des Web Analytics”, Lille’s famous social event on Web Analytics, will take place on October 20th, 2010, at 5 30 PM in Lille Grand Palais, a few minutes’ walk from the Lille-Flandres and Lille-Europe TGV train stations (travel time of 35 minutes to Brussels-South, 60 minutes to Paris-Nord and 80 minutes to London St Pancras International).

Our guest of honor will be Alex Langshur, Past President and Director Emeritus of the Web Analytics Association (WAA), who will be making a special trip from Boston, Massachusetts to share his vision on Mobile Analytics.

Alex’s keynote will be followed by a presentation of Yann Battard, head of new media at NRJ Group, Europe's #1 radio network, who will share his experience with social media measurement, as well as by a joint presentation of Jean-Marc Vandenabeele (WAA country manager for Switzerland) and Julien Coquet (WAA country manager for France) on Web Analytics’ latest and hottest news.

The event will be held in French with a live translation in English.

The event will be concluded by a cocktail sponsored by Hub’Sales.

Next Web Analytics Wednesday in Lille on October 14, featuring Jacques Warren (Canada) and Matt Bailey (USA)

After the summer, the Web Analytics Wednesdays in Lille are back with an outstanding agenda:

• European launch of the book titled "Web Analytics : mesurer le succès et maximiser les profits de votre site Web", co-written by Jacques Warren and Nicolas Malo (see the book web site for more information),
  
  
• Two North American guests of honour: Jacques Warren (Canada) and Matt Bailey (USA) will share their vision on Web Analytics and practical experience on how to optimize web sites. The first presentation will be in French and the second one in English.

  

The event takes place in the conference room #4 of the VAD E-commerce Show 2009 at 6 PM on Wednesday October 14 in Lille Grand Palais (participants welcomed as early as 5 30 PM). Lille Grand Palais is located at 1, Boulevard des Cités-Unies à Lille, a 5-minute walk from the Lille Flandres TGV station and from the Lille Europe Eurostar station. A cocktail will be served after the event at 7 30 PM.

The VAD E-commerce Show is Europe’s largest event for the Distance Selling, E-commerce and Multichannel industries, with over 100 conferences, 250 exhibitors and 10 000 visitors.

Even if it is a free event, it is required to register on the Web Analytics Wednesdays web site, Facebook, LinkedIn or Viadeo for organizational reasons. A badge to the International VAD E-commerce Fair will also be required.

• Michael Notté, Web analytics specialist at Toyota Europe, author of the Kaizen Analytics blog and country manager for the Web Analytics Association in Belgium. Michael will share his experience in implementing a Web analytics program across Europe,

• Julien Coquet, country manager for the Web Analytics Association in France and author of the Negligible Quantities blog, will be back to present the Key Performance Indicators of Web Analytics, following his translation to French of "The Big Book of Key Performance Indicators" by Eric T Peterson. After the success of the first Web Analytics Wednesday on April 1st, the next event in Lille will start at 6 PM on June 17th, at l'Espace Tween, 32 place de la Gare (next to the 3 Brasseurs restaurant), a 1-minute walk from the Lille-Flandres TGV station and a 5-minute walk from the Lille-Europe Eurostar station.

Record turnout for the first Web Analytics Wednesday in Lille with 60+ attendees!

The Café Citoyen was packed with 60+ participants on April 1st! The Web and E-commerce community from Lille welcomed the first WAW initiative and came in great numbers to discuss Web analytics around local beers. Some attendants even came from Paris and Belgium!

The attendance was well above the organizers’ expectations, so the participants had to be split in two groups for the presentations.

Julien Coquet, country manager for the WAA in France and Nicolas Malo, organizer of the WAW in Lille, presented the activities of the Web Analytics Association and a speech on “how to implement a Web analytics approach?”.

First Web Analytics Wednesday in Lille / Rijsel on April 1st

The first Web Analytics Wednesday will take place in Lille at "Le Café Citoyen" at 6 30 pm on Wednesday April 1st 2009. "Le Café Citoyen" is located in the Lille pedestrian area, 600 meters from the Lille-Flandres train station and just across the "République - Beaux Arts" subway station.

This event is open to all the folks interested by Web analytics, who want to meet other persons working in this field. You do not need to be a Web analytics expert to participate.

Here is the agenda for the April 1st event:

7 30 pm: introduction

7 45 pm: debate on "how to implement the web analytics approach in the corporate world"

9 00 pm: dinner at "Aux Moules" (non-mandatory)

Measuring the brand interaction at These Days

Yesterday, I was very fortunate to attend a Web Analytics Wednesday at These Days in Anterwerp, Belgium. These Days defines itself as a "brand interaction company" and is a communication and interactive marketing agency, based in Antwerp and Amsterdam. Close to 50 people attended the event, which is a very significant turnout for the young Web Analytics industry.

After an introduction on building a Web Analytics community in Belgium by Michael Notté, country manager for the Web Analytics Association, a case-study on Pioneer Europe was presented by Siegert Dierickx, Web Analytics Manager for These Days.

  

These Days manages 20 country web sites, 1 Vlog and multiple pan-European micro-sites, as well as E-marketing campaigns for Pioneer Europe.

Siegert explained that they focus on 2 main KPIs for Pioneer's web sites:

• Sales Leads, measured by the number of uses of the shop locator
• Brand Interaction Hour (BIH), measured by the total number of hours spent by the users on a Pioneer Web site.

In order to make the brand interaction metric more tangible to management, the total number of hours were converted into the total number of customer service representatives needed to achieve the same number of contact hours on the telephone. Wow, so smart!

The thinking behind this is that Web sites are conversations with customers.

An operational metric was then created to measure the effectiveness and cost of campaigns: Cost per Brand Interaction Hour (number of brand interaction hours generated by the campaign divided by the cost of the campaign).

To their surprise, the cost per brand interaction hour ranges from 2 to 2,000 Euros depending on the campaign. Thanks to this indicator, they have been able to optimize their campaign strategy and remove campaigns where internauts spend on average 5 seconds on the site.

On my way back to Lille, I was thinking. Hey, why don't we use the same methodology for support section of web sites? It is usually difficult to measure the ROI for a support section, and consequently these sections are under-invested compared to the branding and product sections.

We could then have a Support Interaction Hour metric, calculated with the total time spent on the support section of a web site, as well as a Equivalent Customer Service Headcount metric calculated with the total time spent on the support section divided by the working hours of an average customer service representative.

I can't wait for my next Web Analytics Wednesday event in Belgium!

Web Analytics Wednesday in Lille (Rijsel)

For the folks living in the Greater Lille area (Rijsel in Dutch) and neighbouring Belgium, I have started building a local Web analytics community with the objective to meet several times a year, like the "Web Analytics Wednesdays (WAW)" in other cities of the world. When I was living in Canada, I used to participate to the gatherings organized by Stéphane Hamel in Montreal, and it was always a great opportunity to meet great people and to learn new things.

Why such an event in Lille?  Some of the largest E-commerce players and multichannel retailers in Europe are headquartered in the Greater Lille area. There is also a vibrant and active Web community, with a myriad of web, E-marketing and multimedia agencies.
